SMART Criteria

The SMART criteria are often used to define and review goals or project objectives. Each letter stands for a specific characteristic that a goal should have:

  1. Specific: The goal is clearly and precisely defined, with no room for interpretation.

  2. Measurable: It is possible to monitor or quantify the progress or achievement of the goal using specific metrics.

  3. Attractive (Achievable or Accepted): The goal is appealing and motivating, but also realistic and achievable.

  4. Relevant (Relevant): The goal is meaningful in relation to the overall goals or purpose of the project. It makes a clear contribution to the overall success.

  5. Time-bound: There is a clear deadline or time frame within which the goal is to be achieved. This helps to manage progress and ensure that the goal is not lost sight of.

By formulating goals based on these criteria, it can be ensured that they are clearly understandable, achievable and effective.
